Who are we?

We are two bookselling firms: Rachel Lee Rare Books, and Herb Tandree Philosophy Books, which sell antiquarian and second-hand philosophy, and related subjects; we have been associated with Thoemmes Antiquarian Books, first as employees, and later as partners of the separate firm, since the mid 1980s.

Our two firms continue the respected tradition of bookselling which has become known world-wide through Thoemmes Antiquarian Books, a firm originally founded by Rudi Thoemmes in 1979. Rachel Lee and Herb Tandree have, respectively, 27 and 22 years of experience in selling philosophy books and related materials.

The stock of Rachel Lee Rare Books comprises about 900 titles, and that of Herb Tandree Philosophy Books about 7500 books. Both of the stocks can be viewed by appointment, and the majority of the titles appear on this web site.

What do we do?

We sell mainly philosophy titles, but also books on related subjects, to academics, university libraries, collectors, and other interested parties.

We each produce catalogues and bulletins; Rachel Lee's books can also be found on the internet with Advanced Book Exchange (http://www.abebooks.com/), Alibris (http://www.alibris.com/), and Bibliopoly (http://www.bibliopoly.com/).

And, Herb Tandree's stock can be found listed with ABE (http://www.abebooks.com/), Alibris (http://www.alibris.com/), and Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/).

We will search for any out-of-print titles in our field, and we are able to build and offer collections of books in our field, or other subjects. A list of the collections currently available, and forthcoming, can be found on this web site under "Collections". Printed collection lists will be happily sent upon request.

We are also interested in buying books similar to those listed.

The book rooms are located in a converted woolmill on the river Frome in the old mill town of Stroud, Gloucestershire, in the southern Cotswolds. Stroud is in a picturesque location at the meeting of five valleys, and can easily be reached by road from the motorways, M5 or M4, or by rail from London, the North, and the Southwest of England.
